Alton “Jack” Smith, 76, rural El Dorado Springs, passed away at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital, Bolivar on Jan. 5, 2021, as a result of COVID. Jack was born May 20, 1944, in Carroll County. He was the son of James Louis and Ethel Lorene (Ellis) Smith. He was the youngest of six children.

Jack attended grade school at Roscoe and high school at Osceola, graduating in 1962. He married Carole Elizabeth Blair on Oct. 30, 1964. Two children were born to this marriage, Gregory Lorne and Audrey Elizabeth. They were divorced in 1982. He married Sandra Darlene Anderson on Sept. 23, 1983 and remained her companion until her death on Dec. 10, 2002. Jack and Carole remarried in 2003. They lived in rural El Dorado Springs where Jack had lived since 1950.

He worked as a well driller, mechanic and had a salvage yard for many years. Jack was a member of Pape Christian Church and served on the board.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernie and Donnie; sisters, Mary and Barbara.

He is survived by his wife, Carole, of the home; son, Greg, and friend, Mitch of Aurora, CO; daughter, Audrey Carter, and husband, Duane; two grandsons, Jared and Isaac of Springfield; sister, Billie Nell Bruce of El Dorado Springs and an aunt, Wilda Lee Cox of Bogard; several nieces and nephews and many friends. His grandsons were the highlight of his life.

Services were Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Pleasant Springs (Oyer) Cemetery, El Dorado Springs under the direction of Dennis Wallen

INTERMENT was at Pleasant Springs (Oyer) Cemetery, El Dorado Springs
