C. Waggoner Morerod, 66, of Kansas City, KS, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2016. Waggoner was born Dec. 1, 1949, in Nevada to Shurley B. and Etalka Morerod.

He graduated from Schell City High School in 1967, then went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southwest Baptist University.

He then served with the United States Navy from 1971 to 1973, during the Vietnam War, where he received several medals.

He received his Master’s Degree in Adaptive Physical Education from The University of Kansas in 1982. Mr. Morerod served as a Physical Education teacher for the Bonner Springs/Edwardsville School District from 1973 to 2003, where he retired after 30 years of service.

Waggoner was involved with Prison Fellowship for many years directing choirs and leading Bible studies for prisoners. He managed two half-way houses and ministered to ex-offenders.

In 1994, he became the pastor at Maple Hill Baptist Church where he faithfully served for the past 22 years.

Waggoner was preceded in death by his parents; brothers – Harold Morerod, Russell Morerod and Reinhold Morerod and sister, Gwen Traynor.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen (Davis) Morerod; five children – Brent (Sarah) McMeans, Robin (Tony) Nolan, Kyle McMeans, Isaac Morerod and Nathanael Morerod; eight grandchildren – Ella, Hayden, RiLynn, Reese, Easton, Hadley, Noah and Sutton; brother, Boyd Morerod, sisters, Judith Caudle and Otilla Fox; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends. Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 9, in Maple Hill Baptist Church, Kansas City, KS, followed by graveside services in the Leavenworth National Cemetery, the family suggests memorial contributions to Maple Hill Baptist Church or KCK Huggers, Inc. (Special Olympics).
