Fugate, Dortha--2 1ccDortha Fugate, 96, of rural El Dorado Springs, passed away at her home on Thursday evening, July 28, 2016. Dortha was born Sept. 4, 1919, in St. Clair County to Howard and Pearl (Cochran) Smith. Dortha attended the Union Point School through the eighth grade.

She married Buddy Fugate on Dec. 3, 1934. They were married 46 years before Buddy’s passing in 1980. To their union, seven children were born: Maurice, Jack, Judy, Sharron, Donna, Doug and an infant son (deceased at birth).

Dortha and Buddy lived their entire married lives on the farm, where she worked side-by-side with Buddy raising their children. She was an avid quilt maker and also enjoyed cross-stitching and sewing.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Buddy; parents, Howard and Pearl Smith; an infant son; son, Jack Fugate; siblings – Ruby Alexander, Orville Smith, Ralph Smith and Georgia Amick; granddaughter, Tracey Greenstreet; and great-grandson, Jared Fugate.

Survivors include her children: Maurice (Ardella) Fugate, Judy (Bill) Fenzl, Donna (Wesley) Greenstreet, and Doug (Cyndee) Fugate, all of El Dorado Springs, and Sharron (Tom) Toellner of Boonville; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, Aug. 1, in Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Burial followed in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Dortha’s grandchildren. Pallbearers were Brian Fugate, Tim Fugate, Torey Fugate, Greg Fenzl, Brad Toellner and Jason Greenstreet. Honorary pallbearers were: Dan Fugate, Kirk Fugate, Jaycee Fugate, Brent Toellner, Denise Alexander, Deanna Littlewood, Trisha Greenstreet, Sandra Jansante and Jacqueline Davis.

Memorial donations may be made to High Hopes and left at the funeral home.
