BerniBerning obituary photo 1ccBernadette “Berni” Berning (Preis), 62, left this life on July 27, 2016. Berni was born on Aug. 18, 1953, in Los Angeles, CA, to Bernard Preis and Margaret Grindstaff.  She lived most of her adult life in El Dorado Springs.

Berni was raised by her loving foster parents, Herbert and Claudia Hennes. She grew up in the Hennes home with four brothers – Michael (Cynthia), Herb Jr, Henry “Buddy” and Gary. The family nicknamed her “Bunny.” California friends/family still use the nickname today.

Berni, with Roger Dayton, had three children – Richard Dayton of Houston, TX, Brenda Novelli (John) of St. Charles, and Michael Dayton of Victorville, CA.

In 2006, Berni was contacted by the Preis family and discovered she had two half-sisters, Pattijean (Preis) Cluck of Omaha, NE, and Bernadine (Preis) Ohanian who sadly passed away in 1991.  Berni was also blessed with many new cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with her children and grandchildren, she was welcomed with open arms into the Preis family – bringing much joy and filling a void in her life.

Berni’s grandchildren were the light in her life – Lauren, Emily, Ashley, Ethan, Jonathan and Cameron.  Many of them share her love for reading, arts/crafts, card making, on-line games, sock monkeys and her beloved dachshund, Baili.

Berni’s family would like to express their sincere condolences to her many friends, including those she only knew through on-line networking.

A private burial was held July 30 at Clintonville Cemetery, El Dorado Springs.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.  In the meantime, the family invites you to honor her memory with a random act of kindness. If desired, please share your story on Berni’s Facebook page or email to RandomKindnessForBerni@gmail.com.
