Gerald (Jerry) W. Coy

Gerald W. Coy, 70, better known as Jerry, passed away late Wednesday night, Aug. 4, 2021, at his home near Harwood after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jerry was born June 28, 1951, in the rural Sheldon area to Croal Wendell Coy and Murial Marie Birch. He was a member of the Sheldon Baptist Church, which he attended as a child. He attended a country school until the 6th grade and graduated from Bronaugh High School with the Class of 1970.

Jerry met Karen Hallam in 1975, later getting married on June 12, 1976, at the Methodist Church in El Dorado Springs. They were blessed with a daughter and son. The couple lived most of their lives in Vernon County. When they were first married Jerry worked for Dahmer Ford Tractor. In March 1978, he became an employee of Missouri Highway and Transportation, known as MODOT. Following 31 years at MODOT, Jerry retired, and somehow became busier than ever. There was always something that had to be done on the farm. Jerry was a hard worker from a young age until this past nine months.

He dearly loved his grandchildren and had many fond memories he cherished. Jerry was known to help anyone who was in need, thus leaving his own to help. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and going on trail rides, from which he made many good friends. There wasn’t any animal that he couldn’t make a pet out of.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of the home in Harwood; daughter, Alison Alexander (Bill) – El Dorado Springs; son, Joe Coy (Aimee), Calhoun; sister, Christine Gillispie, Buffalo; four grandchildren, Kylie Jo Alexander, Brett Coy Alexander, Hunter Everett Coy and Ivy Geraldine Coy; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.

Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
