James Gary Green

James Gary Green, 87, Northglenn, CO, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026. He was surrounded by the love of his family during his final hours.

Gary was born April 18, 1939, in El Dorado Springs to James Huston and Elizabeth Irene Downs Green. He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School and began his working career as a service station attendant at Green’s Standard Oil in El Dorado Springs. Throughout his life, Gary held several occupations, including working as a salesman for Hammond Products, delivering laboratory samples for El Dorado Springs Memorial Hospital, and, ultimately, retiring from Bob Coleman Construction, where he worked as a carpenter.

Gary was a longtime and active member of First Baptist Church of El Dorado Springs. He remained a devoted member of the church and community until moving to Northglenn, CO, in November 2024.

Gary believed in giving back to his community and was involved in many organizations and activities throughout his life. He served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 230 and was a member of the El Dorado Springs Jaycees. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Missouri High School Rodeo Association. Gary enjoyed coaching and mentoring young people and managed and coached a regional women’s softball travel team, sharing his knowledge, encouragement, and love of the game with countless players.

Gary also had a lifelong passion for collecting. He was an advanced collector and dealer of vintage soda bottles and took great pride in building one of the largest collections in the Midwest. His knowledge of the history and rarity of these bottles was extensive, and collecting became one of the many interests that brought him great enjoyment throughout his life.

On Feb. 3, 1961, Gary married the love of his life, Mable Christena “Chris” Duckering. Together, they shared 65 years of marriage and raised two sons, Jerry Ray Green and James Gregory “Greg” Green.

Gary will always be remembered for his wonderful stories, his warm personality, his many interests, and, above all, his deep love and devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. His presence brought love, laughter and countless memories that will be cherished for generations to come. Whether he was sharing a story, coaching a young athlete, supporting his community, talking about Scouting or rodeo, or discussing his beloved vintage soda bottles, Gary had a way of making connections with the people around him.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Chris Green; sons, Jerry Green of Midland, TX, and Greg Green (Pam) of Northglenn, CO; grandchildren, Britney (Robert Gomez Jr.), James “Jamey” Gregory Green (Janna), Danielle (Ryan Martin), Brooke, Audrey (Ruston Pardue), and Jacob Green (Hannah Wilcox); great-grandchildren, Izayah Gomez (Freddy Arteaga), Jacob Green (Hannah Wilcox), Evan Gomez, Bricein Martin (Natalie Mock), Meagan Gomez, Kaden Melendez, Jakoby Martin, Breilyn and Corbin Pardue, James Green, Noah Martin, Joyanna Green, and Bexley Green. He is also survived by his great-great-grandchildren, Bexley Green and Behrhett Martin; cousin Roseanne Green Reynolds; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Irene Green; brothers, Ronnie Green and Freddie Green; infant sister, Elizabeth; great-grandson, Joseph Green; and many beloved cousins.

Gary’s life was defined by his love for his family, his faith, his stories, his dedication to his community, and the many relationships he built throughout his years. He gave his time generously, shared his knowledge freely, and found joy in the people and passions that shaped his life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
