John Richard Conley, 84, was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Buffalo, NY, to William F. Conley and Alma P. Dinger Conley. He passed away Feb. 13, 2026, just two days before his 85th birthday.
He married Roberta Rosemarie Roehrl in Jamestown, NY, on April 24,1962, and to this union were born two sons, Christopher and Steven. Roberta preceded him in death on April 14, 2005. He later married Anita Haddock Kennon in El Dorado Springs on Sept. 6, 2008 and she preceded him in death on Aug. 14, 2023.
John graduated from Strong-Vincent High School in Erie, PA, in 1959 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Gannon University in Erie, PA. He worked at General Electric as a machinist, was a sporting goods salesman for Outdoor Sports, and then he and Roberta operated the C&H Motel in El Dorado Springs from 1981-2000.
After his retirement he moved to a hunting property in southern St. Clair County where he continued to enjoy outdoor sports as long as his health allowed.
John was an avid sportsman. He won national competitions in skeet shooting, crow hunting and calling, and enjoyed hunting turkey, deer and quail. He fished, boated and played golf. He tended to become passionate about these pursuits and made many friends from all over the country through outdoor sports. The final loves of his life were his dogs, Ruger and Blue.
John is survived by his sons, Christopher (Christine) Conley, Bolivar, MO and Steve (Jennifer) Conley, Nevada, MO; grandchildren: Ethan, Ryan, Trevor, David and Robby Conley; brother, Bill Conley, Houston, TX; sister, Ellen (Bob) Walters, Erie, PA; and very dear friends: Rick and Judy Delk, Ethan and Katrina Parshall, and Cody and Madison Rutledge all of El Dorado Springs, MO.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs. Interment will be at El Dorado Springs City Cemetery with a gathering of friends and family to follow at the El Dorado Springs Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to the El Dorado Springs Church of Christ.
