Keith Leonard Dexter, 92, passed away on May 28, 2016, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born in Charles City, IA, on June 11, 1923, the son of Leonard Dexter and Winifred Dugan. He married Eleonore “Hope” Dexter in 1946.

Keith served in the United States Navy as Petty Officer Second during WW II and later served in the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. After an Honorable Discharge, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Missouri State College in 1953 and a Master of Science degree in Education from Emporia State Teachers College in 1960.

After obtaining his Bachelor of Science, he pursued his passion of education and working in the “School House.” Keith rose from a coach and history teacher to superintendent, always looking at “Preparing Today for a Better Tomorrow” for his students. He finally returned to his dream of being the vice principal of his hometown high school from which he retired.

Keith was a Scottish Rite and Master Mason for over 50 years. He was also a Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He was a volunteer at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Keith was preceded in death by his wife, “Hope,” and his son Michael Dexter.

Survivors include his son, Dwight Dexter, and wife, Donna – Sioux Falls, SD, and two granddaughters.

In his memory, Masonic Rites will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, in Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Immediately following, his cremains will be buried in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
