Mildred Mae (Leonard) Hines, 86, passed away at 3:49 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at the Community Springs Healthcare Facility in El Dorado Springs.

Mildred Leonard was born on Dec. 30, 1936, to William Warner and Dorothy Mildred (Turner) Leonard at the Appleton City Hospital.

Mildred was a longtime member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and later attended the Union Hall Baptist Church near El Dorado Springs.

Mildred graduated from Walker High School in 1954 and married Floyd Edward Hines Sr. on Oct. 16 in 1955.  Five children were born to this union: Floyd Edward Jr., David Allen, Larry William, Teresa Ann and Steven Lynn. Mildred worked at the El Dorado Springs Shirt factory and Nellie Don Clothing in Nevada. Most people will remember Mildred and her smiling face and caring heart as she operated Hines Grocery Store for many years.

Mildred loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed fishing and could often be found in a boat with her son, David, and brother, Bill, fishing. Mildred loved the farm, her garden and the flower beds around the house. Spending hours on the lawnmower and tending the flowers.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Leonard; husband Floyd Edward; sisters Lula Kay (Leonard) McCullick, Judy Leonard, Mary Beth Leonard, Dorothy Helen Leonard; brothers; Bill Leonard, Daniel Leonard and Charles Leonard.

Mildred is survived by her five children, Floyd Edward Hines Jr., David and his wife, Bonnie, of Harwood, Larry and his wife, Deanna, of Fripp Island SC., Teresa and her husband, Wayne, of Walker, and Steven and his wife, Janice, of Nixa; thirteen grandchildren, Shannon Hines and his wife, Fallon, of Lexington, SC., Ashley Molz and her husband, Derek, of Foristell, Allen Hines of Harwood, Carla Snider and her husband, Kurt, of Shelbina, Dustin Hines of Nixa, Rachel Fetters and her husband, Alex, of Overland Park KS., Ruth Steward and her husband, Mathew, of Raymore, Rebecca Sorrels and her husband, Darren, of Lees Summit, Mary Elizabeth Prewitt of Overland Park, KS. and Thomas Prewitt and his wife, Courtney, of Grandview, Jeremiah Baughman and his wife, Chelsea, of Colorado Springs CO., Leslie Ballew and her husband, Greg of Joplin, and Jordon Reynolds of Webb City, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services for Mildred Hines will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Bland Hackleman Chapel with Norman Conklin and Rachal Fetters officiating. Family visitation will be held from Noon – 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be at the El Dorado Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Floyd Hines Jr, David Hines, Larry Hines, Steve Hines, Wayne Prewitt, Shannon Hines, Allen Hines, Dustin Hines and Thomas Prewitt.
