Sylvia “Susie” Jane Foster Bolander, 94, of Sonora, CA, passed away June 14, 2021. Susie was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Flora, IL.
Susie lived a long and full life. She was born and raised in Flora, Il. At age 17, she married Clifton Dean Bolander in Bolivar. They remained married for 62 years until his passing in 2004.
During WWII Susie did her part to serve her country as a “Rosie The Riveter” welding for the government. After the war Susie and Dean started their family. They had 5 children: Steven Bolander (CA), Sandra Newell (WA), Bruce Bolander (CO), Darwin Bolander (CA) and Brenda Maciel (CA). Susie is survived by 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Susie and Dean raised their family on a small farm in Loomis, CA and retired in El Dorado Springs. The spent their final years together in Canby, OR. Susie moved to Sonora, CA in 2014.
During her years in loomis, CA, Susie was an active leader in 4H and was on the Placer County Fair Board. She enjoyed hand quilting, gardening and reading.
A private memorial was held at Brenda Maciel’s home in Twain Harte, CA. She will be interned at Willamette National Cemetery with her husband in Portland, OR.
