Ula Fern (West) Blauvelt, 95, departed this life on March 20, 2024, in Springfield, surrounded by her family. Ula was born Jan. 20, 1929, near Stockton, to David and Fannie Alta West.

Ula was united in marriage to Charles Blauvelt on March 6, 1948. To this union three children were born: Dennis, David and Virginia. The family grew from there to include nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Ula was saved and baptized at the Northern Heights Baptist Church in Parkville, MO, in 1953. She attended college in Springfield and taught at Gordon School for one year. She worked at the International Shoe Company for 25 years until her retirement in 1982. She and Charles worked on their farm near El Dorado Springs until his passing in 2010. Ula enjoyed reading and crocheting. Many people were blessed by of the many afghans she made.

Ula was preceded in death by her parents, David and Fannie Alta West; husband, Charles; sister, Ada Banham; and four brothers: Virgil, Cleo, Doyle and Glenn West.

Ula is survived by her children: Dennis (Donna) of Battlefield, MO, David (Mary Ann) of Sheldon, and Virginia James of Joplin; nine grandchildren: Denise Blauvelt of Republic, Terry Blauvelt of Springfield, Neil Blauvelt of Glenview, IL, Amber Parker of San Diego, CA, Aaron Blauvelt of Cameron, MO, Emily Mart of Appleton City, James Blauvelt of Sheldon, Adrian Aguilar of Celina, TX, and Nadine James of Arlington, TX; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. We mourn her passing, but we know she is walking unassisted in Heaven and can see the beauty around her again.

The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Springfield Villa. Your loving and compassionate care in the last months of our mother will never be forgotten.

Services were held Saturday, March 23, under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Her final resting place was Pankey Cemetery near Stockton.
