Venita Margarie Loraine Humphrey, 89, Schell City, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born Thursday, January 16,1936 the daughter of Rev. Curtis Monroe Harmon and Thelma (Riggs) in Butts, MO.

During her young life, she along with her family lived in the mining country around Steelville, MO. Her school years were spent in Steelville.In 1954 she was united in marriage to Cecil Midgett and to their union five children were born. She took care of the home while the children were young and also worked at the charcoal plant, then later at Brown Shoe Factory where she was employed for a number of years. Later in 1972, Venita married Donald Lee Humphrey and they lived in Southeast Kansas where Venita worked for a tree trimmer until her retirement in the early 2000s.

After retirement she and Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and cutting wood until she lost Don in 2017. She continued to live in Southeast Kansas until her health declined about a year ago when she moved with her daughter to Schell City, MO. Of special mention was Venita’s knack for pie making, fish frying and fried biscuits

Venita is survived by her sons, Jerry (Pam) Midgett and Gary Midyett; daughters: Patty Ann Pranker, Sue (Kevin) Harms, Crystal (Shane) Taylor; sisters, Linda Stoner and Charlotte Whittaker; son in law, Lester Bridgeman; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee; daughter, Glenda Bridgeman; brothers, Clifton and Alvin; sister, Geneva; daughter in law, Donna Midyett; son in law, John Pranker; great grandson, Holden Maus; and great-great grandson, Colton Larrison.

Services for Venita were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. She was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa, KS.
