Virginia Faye (Barker—Tate) Claessen, 72, Independence, passed away March 2, 2020.

Virginia Faye Barker was born Feb. 27, 1948, to Donald and Neva (Burton) Barker at their home in St. Clair County.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew Claessen of the home; son, Mikale Tate and wife Mitzi of Independence; granddaughters, Sarah and Artemis of Independence; sister-in-law, Kathy Barker; sisters, Donna Kay Hicks, Bonnie Mae Davis and husband Tom, and Carolyn Berning and husband, Max; and four nieces and four nephews and their families.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Donald and Neva Barker; brother, Charles Barker; and great-nephew, Nathan Crabtree.

Virginia was honored to have close friends, who stood by her during the glad times and the difficult times.  Virginia had battled cancer since 2008.  The battle was won by going home to her Savior on March 2.

Services for Virginia Claessen were Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Brush Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Zane Durnell and Bro. Mike Henderson officiating.  Burial followed in Brush Creek Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Danny Shoemaker, David Thompson, Danny Witt, Jerimiah Witt, Garrett Witt, and Chris Witt.
