Wendell L. Allen, 71, El Dorado Springs, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 11, 2022, after a long battle with lung cancer. Wendell was born May 18, 1950, at home in Cedar Springs, the third child of Alva Lloyd and Wretha Mae (Amick) Allen.

Wendell married Doris McGuirk on April 19, 1971. They were married 50 years before his passing. To this union, two daughters were born, Crystal and Denise. They spent their entire married lives in El Dorado Springs.

Wendell was saved on Oct. 26, 1965, and became a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church.

Wendell had several occupations before going to work at Dairy Concepts in 1977. He retired from there after 38 years. Wendell enjoyed working construction and building furniture for family members and people in the community.

Some of Wendell’s fondest memories were of fishing with grandkids, big family meals, spending Saturday nights at the racetrack and flea marketing.

Preceding Wendell in death were his parents, Lloyd and Wretha, and sister, Glenda McCormick.

Survivors include his wife, Doris, of the home; his children, Crystal (Ron) Whitaker, and Denise (Mike) Cartwright, all of El Dorado Springs; grandchildren, Zachary and Megan Whitaker, Madison Whitaker, Ashlie, Bradley and Cailey Cartwright, one great-grandson, Rhett Wade Whitaker; sister, Gayle (Neale) Teague; brother-in-law, Don (Shirley) McCormick; sister-in-law, Judy (Paul) Reeves; brother-in-law, Kent Ed (Judy) McGuirk; several nieces and nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Services for Wendell L. Allen will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Bland-Hackleman Chapel, with Brother Robert Kenney officiating. Internment will follow in Clintonville Cemetery under the direction of Bland Hackleman Funeral Home.
