William Hochstedler, 86, El Dorado Springs, has passed away at his home after a short illness. William was born in Osceola, to Lafayette L and Lela M Hochstedler.
After his graduation from Osceola High School in 1955, William married his high school sweetheart, Emily McCahon, in November of the same year.
William started as a Fly boy at the Kansas City Star Newspaper but later was discharged after a Union strike in the early 1970’s. In 1974, William decided to move his family away from Kansas City to a farm in Cedar County. William started working for Central States Press in Nevada as the Head Pressman. After many years, Central States’ went out of business and he started working for Inland Newspaper and Machine in Lenexa, KS, as a press rebuilder and installer of web-fed presses. He traveled internationally repairing newspaper presses. During all of his hard work, William managed to raise seven children and raised cattle, horses and tended large gardens. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and horse training.
William is preceded in death by his parents, Lafayette and Lela Hochstedler; brothers, Alva, Ramon, Wilber, Ansel and Dean and his sisters, Maxine Koger and Edith Watkins.
He was survived by his sister, Anna Bonner Bay; sons, Denver (Juanita) – Jericho Springs, Paul (Cyndi) – El Dorado Springs, Bernard (Valerie) – Vanzant,, and daughters, Janelle Latting – Paxton, NB, Carolyn Hochstedler – Tulsa, OK, Kathy Hochstedler (Marland Ennis) – Eudora, KS, and Joanne Houston (Michael) – Harwood; including 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
