Message from the Chief Deputy
“The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents to stay vigilant against scams, especially during the holiday season. Please remember:
• We will never call to request money or notify you about a warrant. Scammers often impersonate law enforcement to trick you into sending money or personal information.
• Be cautious of calls, texts, or emails claiming a family member is injured or in trouble and requesting money, gift cards, or other forms of payment. Always verify such claims independently.
• Report scams to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov if you suspect fraudulent activity.
With colder weather upon us, we also urge you to take precautions:
• If warming your vehicle, ensure it is secured and never leave it unattended to prevent theft.
• Avoid leaving packages or valuables in plain sight to deter opportunistic thieves.
Your awareness and quick action can help protect yourself and others. If you have concerns or need assistance, contact the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office immediately. Let’s work together to keep our community safe this season.”
Sincerely,
Clay Jeffries
Chief Deputy
Cedar County Sheriff’s Office
