Message from the Chief Deputy

Have a Plan for Severe Weather

As we head into the spring season, it’s important to remember that severe weather can develop quickly and without much warning. Tornadoes, high winds, hail, and flash flooding are all possibilities in our region this time of year. That’s why now is the time to have a plan in place—not after the storm sirens sound.

Severe Weather Preparedness Tips:

• Know where to go. Identify the safest place in your home, such as a basement or interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.

• Have multiple ways to receive alerts, including weather radios, mobile apps, and local news stations.

• Build an emergency kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, medications, and a phone charger.

• Make a family communication plan so everyone knows how to reach each other and where to meet if separated.

• Don’t wait. When a warning is issued, take immediate action.

Our deputies are prepared to respond when disaster strikes, but your personal preparedness can save lives and reduce the risk of injury. Talk with your family, check your supplies, and review your safety plan today.
