After having to reschedule due to the wintry weather, the El Dorado Springs DECA chapter was able to hold the 24th Annual Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Jimmy Burgess, the director of True North Enterprises and co-founder of Brotherhood of Warriors spoke on leadership and how leadership can be developed in unconventional ways. Members of the Calico Clippers Quilt Guild presented veterans who were in attendance with patriotic quilts. This year multiple students were able to be involved in the assembly: DECA Officers (Kayla Penn, Abby Hogan, Brayden Housh, Taylor Bruce, and Haylee Smith) presented the program, EHS Band and Choir performed patriotic numbers, and members of the FFA (Brady Leonard, Abby Klaiber, Avery Schiereck, and Trey Graves) presented the colors. The week prior to the assembly students and community members brought in canned goods, hygiene products, and clothing that were presented to Brotherhood of Warriors to be given to homeless veterans. Brotherhood of Warriors is a non-profit organization for the re-assimilation of veterans in the area. Following the assembly a reception was held to honor the veterans and their families, as well as community members who were present.
