Beginning this school year the El Dorado Springs School District welcomed Deputy Garrett Lukenbill as our new School Resource Officer. The Canine Courier caught him for a minute and asked him a few questions.

Q. Where did you grow up?

A. I moved a lot, so I kind of grew up all over Southwest Missouri, but I graduated high school from Stockton

Q. Tell me about your family.

A. I have a beautiful wife and three children.

Q. What jobs did you hold before you were a deputy?

A. I was a corrections officer, dispatcher, vet technician, and carpenter. Prior to being a deputy, I worked in Cedar County Jail for 8 years. I decided to get into law enforcement to further my criminal justice career and serve the public.

Q. Why did you decide to become a deputy?

A. I wanted to serve my community and the public. I enjoy helping people.

Q. Where did you attend the police academy?

I went to Missouri Southern State University and graduated in 2019.

Q. What is your favorite part of being a road deputy?

A. Driving county roads and learning my county is fun, but I also really like interacting with people in my community and helping people in need.”

Q. Why did you take this position as SRO?

A. I was excited for the chance to try something new and help the younger generation.

Q. What do you like about this position?

A. I like the teachers and other people I work with. I’ve had fun getting to know new people. I also like changing people’s minds about law enforcement. Oh, also the kids are fun to be around and entertaining.”

Q. I know you’re training your K-9. Can you tell me about your dog and what you hope to do with him?

A. My dog is a german shepherd and he will be trained to assist deputies in their daily duties. At home, he’s energetic and sweet and I really love having him with me.

Q. What does a successful day look like for you here at the school?

A. I usually take over 15k steps a day! I think a successful day is any day I can help someone, make a kid’s day, or help the staff make school a safe place for students.

Q. What are your ultimate career goals?

A. Ultimately, I’d like to be a k-9 deputy specialized in search and rescue.
