Tuesday, June 24 saw the dedication of the new playground and equipment at Northeast Vernon County Elementary School at Schell City. With a total cost of $25,885, the project began in the fall of 2024 and was funded by the work of 11-groups: the Barton Family; El Dorado Springs Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #4279; Fraternal Order of Eagles #4279; Hutchison Insurance Agency; Nevada Elks Lodge #564; Nevada Fraternal Order of Eagles #3770; Nevada Osage Lodge #303 A.F. & A.M.; Northeast Vernon County (NEVC) R-1 School Board of Education; NEVC Parent Teacher Organization (PTO); Schell City Community Betterment; and the Schell City Volunteer Fire Department. Pictured in the ribbon-cutting are: Gavon and Tammy Hutchison (of Hutchison Insurance); NEVC R-1 District Superintendent Christy Jones; NEVC Elementary Principal Eric Rhodes; Martin Eador, with the Creating-A-Partnership program of the Masonic Home of Missouri; NEVC Elementary School PTO President Ashley Baer; NEVC PTO Secretary-Treasurer Tina Scaggs and Bill Martin with Osage Lodge #303. A beautifully engraved wooden sign recognizing the donor groups and mounted on a nearby tree was hand-made by Dr. John Lawrence, outgoing Principal of NEVC High School in Walker.
