SEW AND SEWS – While Shannon Mays was visiting with Family & Consumer Science Instructor Dalena Gordon, she shared that several of her students had to take turns and often sit out while waiting to finish projects as there were not enough sewing machines to go around. That put auctioneer and local realtor Shannon Mays thinking that she needed to help. Fortunately, there were some auctions coming up that had sewing machines and even a serger. So when she had the opportunity, she purchased the machines and just recently delivered them to the classroom. Hopefully, now more students will be able to participate and have more actual project time.

Mays commented, “I love being able to help our local schools and make a difference. And if anyone has like new sewing machines they would like to donate, I’ll make arrangements to have them picked up and brought to the school. Let’s show our students we care!” Shannon has been an area realtor and auctioneer for over 30 years and enjoys giving back to the community. She has served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and volunteered in many different capacities. As owner and broker at Shannon & Associates, “I love seeing the public involved by volunteering and supporting our different civic clubs and organizations as well as schools, because all in all, when people care and spend their time and money to support them, they in turn support the community and make the Tri-County area a better place to live and raise a family.”
