The Speech and Debate Team traveled to Carthage on Jan. 19 and 20, for a two day event. Several students could not attend though due to other circumstances so the team was a little light on competitive events. Those who did go, tried their best, and while some didn’t place, they worked hard up to the event and really showed up as a group representing our school.
Their next tournament is an overnight tournament in Joplin on Feb. 17-18.
Teacher and Coach Tandi Leonard, said, “It was a massive tournament with us competing with over 20 different schools, most of them larger districts. All members present, Mycole Smith, 10; Crayton Thorell, 9; Wyatt Wilkinson, 9; Grace Stoviak, 9; Audrey Goatley, 10; Ryan Griffin, 12; and Perry Allison, 12; made it through to semi-finals. Ultimately bringing home trophies were Ryan Griffin with 3rd place in International Extemporaneous Speaking, Perry Allison with 6th place in Dramatic Interpretation, and Grace Stoviak and Audrey Goatley with 6th place in Duo.”
