Week 7 of the high school football season took your hometown Bulldogs north to visit the Marksmen of Sherwood. It was also an Ozark Highlands conference battle with both teams seeking their first victories in conference play. Eldo came out victorious 28-16. Coach Beckner stated, “Always celebrate a victory. We say it all the time, one of the hardest things to do in high school sports is win a football game. We got one tonight, these kids need to enjoy it.” It was the second victory for the team pulling their record to 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs will face another conference opponent this week for senior night when Butler visits town Friday. “It is good to get a conference win. Hopefully that will build some steam heading into practice next week.”

The Bulldogs opened the game with a drive lasting over 7 minutes driving the length of the field finishing with a score. Senior Payton Green added the extra point to make it 7-0. The defense started out strong forcing Sherwood to punt on their first 3 possessions. “I thought our coaches did a good job of preparing the players and the players did their jobs and the score shows it. Sherwood is getting better, Coach Carney does a great job coaching his kids.” The Bulldogs continued to push the ball down the field with each possession, “I was happy to see how line get off the ball and get some push, our backs did a good job of hitting the hole and adjusting to where the holes opened up.” Senior Micheal Hart led the offense attack from his fullback or ‘tank’ position. “So happy for that kid, hard working, never a discipline issue, good player…for him to have some success is just awesome.”

Your hometown team plays back at home for their final regular season game and senior night this week at the DogPound against the Bears of Butler. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Senior night festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. and youth football and cheerleading recognition will happen at halftime. “I felt we let one go last year” Beckner stated, speaking of last year’s contest against Butler where the Bulldogs fell 18-13. “I really like our game plans for the upcoming week. Still a lot to be playing for, I think our boys will be ready. I hope we can have a great crowd and get some home field advantage going.”
