On Saturday, May 11, the El Dorado Springs track team loaded up the bus and headed to Holden for the Class 3 Section 4 Track Meet. What was at stake and on the minds of the athletes was a trip to the MSHSAA Class 3 State Track and Field Championships. To qualify for the State Meet, athletes would have to finish in the top 4 of each event. So the day was filled with plenty of energy and the weather turned out great for a track meet.

The following athletes and events qualified for the State Championship Meet. The boys 4 x 800 m. Relay, consisting of Braxton Watts, Logan Fisk, Wyatt Klaiber and Will Seitz, got the day started off on a high note winning the race with a school record time of 8:10.90. Up next was the girls 4 x 800 m. Relay, consisting of Tatum Quinlan, Audrey Goatley, Neely Schaaf and McKinli Mays. They followed suit, winning with a time of 10:00.15. While the two relays were taking place, Kalen Post was competing in the high jump. In the end, Kalen ended up finishing 2nd with a personal best jump of 5’1.25”. Justin Brown went on to win the 100 m. dash with a time of 10.94. Wyatt Klaiber went on to cruise to a victory in the 1600 m run with a time of 4:27. That was followed up by Audrey Goatley finishing 2nd in the girls 1600 m. run with a personal best time of 5:32. McKinli Mays finished 2nd in the triple jump with a jump of 34’8.25”. Shortly after, McKinli went on to win the 400 m. dash with a personal best time of 58.42 followed shortly behind by teammate Lainey Dody which finished 4th with a personal best time of 1:00.42. This performance followed Will Seitz also winning the boys 400 m. dash with a time of 49.62. Wyatt Klaiber went on to win the 3200 m. run with a time of 10:00 while Audrey Goatley finished 2nd in the girls 3200 m. run with a time of 12:25. To finish the day for the boys team and round out the qualifiers was the boys 4 x 400 m. Relay. The relay consisting of Braxton Watts, Alternate Kolton Nichols, Wyatt Klaiber and Will Seitz went on to win with a time of 3:28. The girls 4 x 400 m. Relay team, consisting of Lainey Dody, Braylie Steward, Neely Schaaf and McKinli Mays, went on to close the day out with a win with a school record breaking time of 4:05.29.

Others that competed on Saturday but just missed out on moving on to the State Meet: Kalen Post in the 100 m. Hurdles, Braylie Steward in the 300 m. Hurdles although she did lower the school record to 48.02, Lainey Dody in the 100 and 200 m. dashes, Sage McCullough in the Javelin Throw, Braxton Watts in the 800 m. run, and Kolton Nichols in the 300 m. Hurdles.

Overall, it was a great day. Everyone competed extremely well. In the end we have girls competing in 9 events and boys competing in six events at the State Meet this coming weekend. We are looking forward to a great State Championship Meet. The State Championships get started on Friday in Jefferson City at Jefferson City High School. Those in competition on Friday will be: boys 4 x 800 relay (finals), girls 1600 (finals), girls 800 (finals), boys 3200 (finals), boys 100 (prelims), boys and girls 400 (prelims), boys and girls 4 x 400 relay (prelims) and girls high jump (finals). Then on Saturday: girls 4 x 800 m. relay (finals), boys 1600 (finals), girls 3200 (finals), girls triple jump (finals) and finals for all of the preliminary events from Friday. It’s a great time to be a BULLDOG! Go BULLDOGS!
