On Saturday, May 22, the El Dorado Springs High School track team headed to Camdenton for the Class 3, Section 3 track meet. At stake was a trip to the Class 3 Missouri State Track and Field Meet, which will be held on Saturday, May 29 at Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, MO. The team had 6 boys events and 4 girls events qualified to participate in the Sectional meet from the Class 3 District 5 track meet, the week before at Lamar. To qualify for the State meet they had to place in the top 4 of their event.

On the girls side, the 4 x 800 meter relay team, consisting of Morgan Mitchell, Colbie Wood, Jordanne Steuck and Hannah Klaiber, finished 3rd with a time of 10:47.05 to move on to next week at the State Meet. They will have Elizabeth Henderson join them as an alternate for the relay. Hannah Klaiber then went on to place 2nd in a highly contested photo finish in the 800 meter run, in which she found herself just one hundredth of a second shy of winning, running a time of 2:27.02. The girls 4 x 400 meter relay, consisting of Morgan Mitchell, Jordanne Steuck, Elizabeth Henderson, and Hannah Klaiber, unfortunately, just fell short of qualifying on to the state meet, despite improving 8 seconds on their season best time from the week before, they ended up 6th with a time of 4:28.02. Also, lone senior girl Jordanne Steuck missed out on the opportunity to add javelin to her list of events at state, as she ended up in the infamous 5th position, just 2 feet out of 4th. She has had a great year in javelin this year and has set the school record and broke it several times this year in javelin, just unfortunately, Saturday wasn’t her day. Fortunately, though, she will still be running one final race at state in the 4 x 800 meter relay.

On the boys side, Daelen Ackley got the day started by winning the 3200 meter run, with a new school record breaking time of 9:20.08. He then went on, a short time later, to join Lunden Messick, Brice Knoll and Connor Goatley in the 4 x 800 meter relay, which ended up running a season best time of 8:35.71 to place 2nd. Daelen then went on to win the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:32.15. He then finished off a busy day, winning the 800 meter run with a new school record breaking time of 1:56.72. Jalen Julian finished 2nd in the high jump with a jump of 5’10.75”. To cap off a perfect day for the boys team, Collin Hunter went on to win the pole vault with a height of 13’1.75”. When the day was finished, despite only having 6 entries on the boys side, the boys team ended up in 3rd place as a team, out of some 20 plus schools in attendance.

Overall, it was an incredible day and it leaves us extremely excited for this coming weekend. The Class 3 State Track and Field meet will be held this Saturday at Jefferson City High School, in Jefferson City at 10. If you plan to attend, tickets are $8 and will only be available for sale online at mshsaa.org.
