VAN DYK'S KARATE COMPETES IN OKLAHOMA 3CC

On Saturday, June 4, students from Van Dyk’s Karate in El Dorado Spring who are representing the SWAT National Karate Team traveled to Moore, OK, to compete in the Dog Days of Summer Karate Tournament sponsored and sanctioned by the Oklahoma Karate Association. Hunter Malensek and Mason Gardner represented their team, school and community very well. They competed with some old and new competitors. They placed well and had plenty of fun doing so. Their dedication and hard work building towards competing at Nationals later this year is definitely showing and earning them some awesome awards and hardware.

Mason and Hunter both competed in the Youth 10 – 11 Novice Division. Mason Gardner (front, left) placed 4th in Traditional Weapons, 3rd in Open Hand Forms and 4th in Point Sparring. Hunter Malensek (front, right) placed 1st in Traditional Weapons, 1st in Open Hand Forms and 2nd in Point Sparring. Their Instructor and Team SWAT Coach Riaan Van Dyk is behind them in the photo. After earning double points for their efforts at this Saturday’s tournament. Hunter and Mason have built a good lead in their overall Divisional Point Standings. Hunter is currently in 1st Place in all three of his events and Mason is on Hunter’s heels chasing points as he is 2nd in Weapons, 2nd in Forms and 3rd in Sparring.

These two youngsters and more of their teammates will next compete in Tulsa, OK, at the Whirlwind Karate Championships later in June.
