The Cedar County Memorial Hospital Board met on Monday, March 19, with a quorum of three members: Carla Griffin, Johnny Walker and Judy Renn, presiding. Julia Phillips was absent. Also present were CEO Jana Witt, RN/CNO Rob Simmons, Hospital Attorney Bryan Breckinridge, Community Services Manager Susan Hall and Recording Secretary Terri Heitz.

Witt mentioned that interim Director of Finance Karen O’Neal was unable to prepare financials for January or February. Carla Gilbert has returned to the position and is working to bring the financials up to date as soon as possible while preparing the annual audit which is anticipated at the end of April.

CNO Rob Simmonssaid the hospital continues to use agency nurses, but he did interview three RNs last week One accepted a position and Simmons is waiting to hear back from the other two.

CEO Witt said that CRT Tracy Fletcher joined the hospital staff on March 5 as the new Respiratory Therapy Manager and Interim Maintenance Supervisor. He is a respiratory therapist that also has prior experience supervising a hospital maintenance department. He has been inspecting the facility and prioritizing maintenance nerds.

Witt said that Surgery Department Manager Jennifer Koca  has requested three patient stretchers for cataract surgeries. Recently three of the six stretchers in surgery are down due to hydraulic failures and parts can no longer be obtained. The three remaining stretchers, for different reasons are not ideal for use during cataract surgeries. The board voted to purchase three refurbished Stryker 1069 Head, Neck and Eye stretchers with one year warranty at a cost of $2,895 each for a total of $8,685.

Witt told the board the hospital had recieved only one bid for the HVAC unit at the Medical Mall/County Health area. The bid for $18,5000 is from Stutesman Heating and Air Conditioning. The board voted for Stutesman to proceed. Witt stated the project is to be reimbursed with MO Foundation for Health Funds.

Witt mentioned that former Maintenance Department  Manager, Mike Collins, had  put out a bid for glass/window work at the Medical Mall/County Health. The hospital received one bid as well as a letter from a second vendor who voiced concerns that the project specs were not adequate. New specs have been written. A new invitation went out two weeks ago.

Witt said the annual East Egg Hunt will be at 5 p.m. on on Thursday, March 29.

Simmons said that the survey for STROKE certification is scheduled for June 19 – 20, 2018, and that it is possible that the STEMI survey may take place at the same time. 

In executive session, the board voted to approve an “Agreement for use of a Parking Lot” between the hospital  and the Cedar County Farmers Market with a change to indicate the Farmers Market will not have access to the Medical Mall Clinic building nor shall electricity be provided for the Market’s use.
