Josh Bachand hired as youth minister

The big news this week was the Vernon County Youth Fair. The Walker 4-H members had lots of entries and won many ribbons. It was a good week with the weather, certainly lots cooler than last year.

Glen and Alberta Hays went to Iberia and visited with Bob and Meredith Wilson on Saturday afternoon. They reported it was a beautiful trip there and back.

Laura, Jackson and Reid Willson of Colleyville, TX, arrived on Tuesday at the home of her parents, Jenise and Jerry Burch. They were in time for the Royalty coronation to see Kate Burch be recognized as runner-up in the princess contest at the Vernon County Youth Fair. They took in fair activities the rest of the week including Cole and Jackson mutton busting at the Youth Rodeo, swine show (Kate) and bucket calf show (Cole).

Tony, Ashley and Jessa Patton spent the weekend at the home of his parents, Rich and Marty Patton to celebrate Rich’s birthday. Per his request, it was steaks cooked on the grill followed by a trip to the DQ for ice cream.

Walker Christian Church will hold VBS: Babylon starting on Aug. 6-10 for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The evenings will start at 6 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. Walker Christian Church has officially hired Josh Bachand, son of Darren and Vivian Bachand of Schell City as their Youth Minister. Josh is currently a student at Ozark Christian College in Joplin.

Vacation Bible School will be held at the First Baptist Church in Schell City July 22-27 from 6 to 8:30 each evening.

Brooklyn and Carter Foreman spent Friday with Charles and me. Later in the evening David Foreman, and Katie and Brice Budd joined us to watch Corey Graham show his heifer at the VCYF.

Bob and Jane Hutchison attended the funeral of her cousin, Allen Hargrove, Friday morning in El Dorado Springs.

Bob and Linda Majors camped at Stockton Lake for a few days. They were joined by their children Chad and Jenny Majors, Alexia and Maleia and Brad and LouAnn Majors, Madyson and Mason.

Cale McConnaughey is spending a few days with his grandparents, Bob and Jane Hutchison.

Dave and Betsy Foreman, Brooklyn and Carter spent Saturday evening with the Norma Thomas family in Schell City. They ate dinner with them.

Visiting Bob and Laura Clinton last week and helping Bob celebrate his 79th birthday were Julie and Kent Gardner, Jodee and Jeff Fanning, Bob Lee and Lavina Clinton, Tracy and James Washburn, Jaycee, Declan and Corbin, Ernie Nikodim and Donna Davidson. Dustin Davidson visited them Sunday afternoon.

Christine Graham and I made a trip to Vandalia, IL, Sunday. We did some shopping in St. Louis.

Jennifer and Dustin Davidson, Jake and Emily reported, “Had a great week at the fair. Jake got 4th and Emily got 6th on their swine carcass out of 13.”

Tracy and James Washburn, Corbin, Declan, and Jaycee hosted a big 4 of July celebration last weekend with a cookout and fireworks. Attending were Bob and Laura Clinton, Bob Lee and Lavina Clinton, Jodee and Jeff Fanning and Julie and Kent Gardner.

Lois and Jim Herbst and Bob and Jane Hutchison attended the benefit supper for Stony Creek School at the Fair Haven Park Friday evening.

Sunday, Bob and Jane Hutchison attended a birthday lunch in honor of the birthday of Debbie Wallace at the home of Valerie and Eddie Hardy and family in Nevada.

Brice Budd and Corey Graham spent Tuesday with Charles and me. Visiting later in the evening were Christine Graham, Katie Budd and Chet Foreman. Chet hauled in a bunch of our big bales of hay.
