The Schell City/Harwood United Methoidst Women met at Madalyn’s Kitchen Wednesday evening, April 16, for their regular monthly meeting. Members present were Pastor Connie Locke, Jewell and Helen Ellerman, Madalyn Crocker, Ruth Ijams, Sharon Sterling. Visitors were Patricia Pike and Delores Johnson. President Helen Ellerman conducted the business meeting. She gave the devotion taken from John 13:21-32. Pastor Locke read from the prayer calendar and had prayer. The purpose of UMW was repeated in unison. The card chairman reported sending several cards. Plans were made to have a spring sale May 9 and 10. They voted to hold their meeting at 4 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. Patricia Pike, who is a member of the Adrian UMW, had the program. She told about the Easter Egg Roll held at the White House at Washington D.C. that she had volunteered for several years. She did not go this year. It was a very interesting program. Refreshments were brought by everyone which consisted of summer sausage, cheese, crackers, pizza, meat rolls, relish tray, deviled eggs, different kinds of desserts, chips, dip, iced tea and coffee. The May 21 meeting will be at Madalyn’s Kitchen at 4 p.m. Sharon Sterling will have the lesson.

Frances Lewis’s cousin, Bob Roe, of El Dorado Springs picked her up and took her to Madalyn’s Kitchen for lunch Friday, April 18.

Those having dinner at the Chinese Chef in Nevada Sunday, April 20, were Pastor Connie Locke, Jewell and Helen Ellerman and Frances Lewis.

Church service was held at the Harwood Baptist Church Sunday, April 20. Brother Jon Caudle’s sermon “He Is Risen,” was taken from Luke 24:19-21.

Church service was held at the Schell City United Methodist Church Sunday, April 20. Pastor Connie Locke’s sermon “Life with The Risen Christ,” was taken from Colossians 3:1-4. Holy Communion was served. Sunday School was held before church. Jeanie O’Brien led the lesson “The Third Day,” taken from Hosea 6:1-3 and Luke 24:1-12.

Connie Locke visited her dad, Ben Locke, in Nevada several different days through the week.

I had a letter from Eileen Powell’s daughter, Betty Rowland, this past week. She says Eileen is doing fairly well. Eileen broke her hip in July of 2011. Betty says when she left the hospital they put her in the nursing home next to the assisted living where she has been in Excelsior Springs. Eileen and her late husband, Eldon, lived at Indian Springs near Harwood and Schell before moving to Excelsior Springs. They attended the Harwood United Methodist Church and belong to several different originations in the area. Eldon was superintendent at the Schell City School for several years. Betty says Eileen says to tell everyone hi.

The Schell City/Harwood United Methodist Women will hold their spring sale on Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and if they do not get done they will probably work on the 6th of May. If you need more information, you can call Pastor Locke at 432-3421.
