Imagine catching a giant, prehistoric fish whose ancestors swam during the time of dinosaurs. That is a reality for thousands of paddlefish snaggers during Missouri’s annual spring paddlefish snagging season. Paddlefish — named for their large, paddle-shaped snouts — are an ancient species that can grow to seven feet and weight more than 100 pounds.

On Friday, Feb. 15, the Mo-Kan Square Dancers will hold their Valentine Dance with Kenton Sullivan calling. This will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the Home Ec Building at the Vernon County Fairgrounds, Nevada. Admission is $5 for adult dancers and $3 for youth dancers. All dancers and interested persons are welcome.

The Board of Directors of Cedar County Memorial Hospital will begin a meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, in the classroom at Cedar County Memorial Hospital. The tentative agenda of this meeting includes the usual reports.
