The floor was turned over to Carol who had the program today. “Fun Fiber Facts” taken from TOPS “Real People, Real Weight Loss” book.

Some facts Carol told us are; Fiber takes longer to digest so you feel full longer. Fiber is the “roto rooter” for your body.

Fiber is good for helping keep your heart healthy, Blood sugar level and can help you lose weight.

Try to have at least 20 to 30 grams of fiber per day. This means if you have three meals and two snacks a day you should have 5 to 6 grams of fiber at each meal.

The average person eats less than 15 grams of fiber a day.

Some foods high in fiber are: whole grain breads but read the label; it must be whole grain, not refined.

Beans, black beans, pinto beans and others are high in fiber

Berries are best fiber of the fruits. Raspberries are the best of the berry family.

Grains, Brown Rice, Bugler, Quinoa to name a few

Peas and other greens, Split pea, Black eyed peas, Mustard greens, Spinach.

Nuts and seeds, almonds have 4 grams per serving

Other fruits such as prunes as we all know are high in fiber.

We welcome anyone who is interested in losing weight. That includes men, women, teenagers, and even children above the age of 7. We encourage and reward losses even as small as .2 of a pound. We kid a lot about that awful .2 especially when it is a gain. We do not shame you if you gain but help you explore what you might do to have a loss the next week. We have a lot of fun in the process.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life as the saying goes so it is a good day to make a life changing decision. We often remind ourselves that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. We are here to help you break the cycle and have fun doing it. Please consider joining us.
