Tops Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) met in the United Methodist Church, 201 E Broadway on Thursday, July 16, for their weekly weigh in and meeting.

Co-Leader, Linda H led us in singing “Hand In Hand.” We said our TOPS & KOPS Pledges.

Linda H. led us in roll call, 19 members weighed in today. We had a Net Loss of 2.8 lbs.

Best Loser for the week was Angie with a loss of 4.4 lbs. Other great losses were; Warren with a loss of 3.2, Laura 2.2, Juda 1.0, and Linda H 1.6.

Marilyn presented Carolyn J with an award from May, she received a back in black with perfect attendance certificate.

Jean presented the program today. She continued with Chapter 1 from the Real People Real Life book. She talked about reading labels on foods. How to determine a serving size, and how to check ingredients. She talked about portion control and had some members measure out a portion of cereal and a serving of chips. We learned we count out a serving of chips, not take the whole bag to the couch when we are watching TV.

She then talked about Carbohydrate’s. Most adults trying to lose weight need about 200-250 grams of carbohydrates per day.

There is a web site she found that shows labels of foods and rates each food and suggest substitutes that would be lower in fat, calories and carbs. It is fooducate. There is an app for your mobile device or simply look it up on line.

Linda reminded us of the summer contest, she passed out instruction for this contest. They are; First; each member should take a moment and search their minds on what TOPS means to them. Write it down put it in an envelope and give to your leader to give to our Advocate. Make sure you put your name and chapter on them.

Second; lose weight during July and August and Three; walk/exercise.

Awards will be sent to chapters or our Advocate will deliver them to us.

Marble game: There was $6.50 on the pot, Jennifer won the right to draw but did not get the winning one.

Linda reminded us of the area recognition day coming up in October in Clinton. It will be Saturday, Oct. 3.

Linda asked if we are interested in doing the potato luncheon in September. In view of the uncertainty of the virus and many members being gone in the fall it was decided to wait till spring.

We sang Happy Birthday to LJ.

Our new member, Terri D, will celebrate a birthday next week. She can only come in for weigh- ins as she is still working. Send her a card so she knows we are thinking of her.
