Circuit Judge James Bickel, at a hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 30, in Nevada, sentenced Logan Ellison, 19, to 22 years in prison for the murder of his grandparents, Herman and Rosie Ellison, on Oct. 9, 2014, in their Vernon County home southwest of El Dorado Springs where Logan lived with them.

In the victim impact portion of the hearing, Judge Bickel was urged to sentence Ellison to 22 years each on both counts of second degree murder and the one count of first degree robbery and have the sentences run consecutively.

Judge Bickel made it clear he would not exceed the 22-year cap agreed to by Prosecutor Brandi McInroy and the accused, then sentenced Ellison to three concurrent terms of 22 years total.

Under the law, Ellison who was 17 at the time of the murders, must serve 85 percent of the sentence, or 18.7 years. With credit for almost two years he has been in jail, Ellison would be almost 36 years old by the time he is released. He could be held until he is 39.
